ICT Systems Support Level 2 at Wiltshire College

Course description

This is a one year, full-time course that will provide a good foundation for a future in the computer industry. It will give a good practical introduction to how a computer works. Opportunities will be given to diagnose and repair faults on PC equipment and be instructed in the safe methods of installing and configuring both hardware and software.

Course content

You will study the following Units:
Customer Support
The aim of this unit is to provide technical information and support in response to customer requirements
Network Principles
The aim of this unit is to introduce some of the basic techniques required to network computer systems
Data Security
This unit will introduce the principles required to understand data security; this is becoming ever important within industry
Install ICT Equipment & Operating Systems
The aim of this unit is to introduce candidates to a range of ICT hardware equipment and software. Candidates will learn to install and configure hardware and software as part of this unit
Install and Configure Software
Candidates will learn how to install configure and maintain software correctly following prescribed guidelines and manufacturer’s instructions
Repair Centre Procedures
The aim of this unit is to introduce candidates to the principles behind working in a repair centre, candidates will learn many of the techniques used in this industry

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade D or above, including Maths and English, or equivalent (or successful completion of a relevant subject at Level 1)
A good reference
A satisfactory interview


City & Guilds 7540-12 Level 2 Diploma in IT Systems & Principles
Functional Skills Maths and English at the appropriate level

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of this course it may be possible to progress on to:

BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in IT
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT
Modern Apprenticeships
