History AS level at Shoeburyness High School
This course will help you understand the value of and significance of world events in the past, gain a deeper understanding of social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity. Knowing how people lived in the past helps us to understand why people act the way that they do today. You will learn how to assemble data and assess it; how to investigate facts and use deduction; how to put over your point of view fluently; how to work as a team to achieve results. As an academic subject, essay writing and examination skills will be taught and practised.
At least 5 A – C grades at GCSE; including a B grade in History.
A-level History gives you knowledge and skills which will prepare you for higher education and which are also useful in any career. Students who specialise in History can go on to become historical researchers, work in heritage organisations or become teachers. History also supports other career paths, such as journalism, politics, law, social work and public services. History is considered a ‘transferable skills’ subject where skills in research, analysis, debate and evaluation are thought of as key skills in any higher education or employment pathway.
