Entry requirements

You must have at least a grade C (or equivalent) at GCSE in English Language and History.  We prefer you to have taken History at school, but if you haven’t, please contact the Course Leader (see Further Information on the next page).

Genuine interest in and enthusiasm for the study of the past are the basic requirements, together with initiative and the capacity to work hard, both as part as a group and independently.

More important, you need to have the self-discipline and motivation necessary to undertake the reading, research, reporting and writing required.

Assessment

You will prepare for two written examinations to be taken either at the end of the first year or the end of the second year.

You will also produce an independent coursework essay

Future opportunities

The study of History involves a wide range of skills, such as the ability to be objective, to research, organise and present arguments as well as evaluate a range of sources.

This is a qualification which is well respected by employers and universities, and is useful in a wide variety of careers such as journalism, law and teaching.

It combines readily with other subjects such as Government & Politics, Law and English.
