Course description

Studying a Modern Language allows students to understand the spoken and written word while increasing their confidence when communicating their own ideas and opinions in the target language. They also gain an insight into current social issues and the culture of the countries where the languages are spoken. Students who have achieved well at GCSE are actively encouraged to continue their studies to a more advanced level.

At AS Level, students are assessed on two units, a Speaking unit and a combined unit involving Listening, Reading, Writing and Grammar.

In the second year A2 students will continue the Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing elements to prepare for a combined skill unit which explores Culture and Society at a deeper level, including two special areas of focus. Again there is a Speaking unit with a discussion of the two special areas.
