Art and Design Cambridge Technical Level 2 Certificate at Brockenhurst College
The OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Art and Design is an introductory course for learners wanting to study Art and Design in the context of a vocational sector.
The knowledge, understanding and skills learnt in studying a OCR Level 2 Diploma will aid progression to further study on a Level 3 Art course (such as BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma, or A Level), that will prepare learners to progress to Higher Education (Art College/University) or workplace in due course.
The course is one year in duration.
In this time you will need to study six units (these will be determined by your tutors). The studies will include investigating a breadth of materials and techniques across a broad range of 2D and 3D disciplines that may include fine art, 3D/ceramics, and textiles.
As well as practical investigations you will also be required to
- critically analyse your own and other's work
- research into artists and art movements
- effectively record your results
- evaluate a range of processes and techniques.
You will also need to be able to organise yourself effectively and meet deadlines. This is particularly important when working for a client and/or when preparing for the two examined units.
This is not a beginner's course and is not suitable for those with no art background. It is expected that the learner will have achieved at least 4 grade D's.
Assessment will be achieved through coursework.
You will pay a studio fee of £30 towards basic materials so that we can introduce you to a broad range of processes and techniques. You will be expected to buy your own materials for extended independent experimental work and for producing final pieces.
Successful achievement may lead onto Level 3 courses such as the Level 3 Extended Diploma or A levels. In order to be eligible for these courses you will need to achieve an overall Merit or Distinction grade for the Level 2 Diploma.
This qualification is built around one core unit that forms the fundamental knowledge and understanding of Art and Design movements and principles. In order to achieve the qualification you will need to complete another 5 units in total chosen from 11 optional specialist units (such as Fashion, Graphics, 3D, Textiles, Fine Art, Photography). Thereby providing an opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the art and design industries.
