Course description

Why study Psychology? You will gain an understanding of the biological basis of behaviour and how the human mind affects behaviour, as well as the history, research methods and data analysis used in psychology. What topics will I study? AS: psychological investigations and core studies (e.g. classical psychology) A2: options in Applied Psychology (e.g. forensic psychology, psychology of education). Research methods in psychology. How will I be assessed? AS: an examination on psychological investigations, and an examination on core studies A2: examination on applied psychology, and an examination on research-methods An example/illustration of the type of work involved: You will debate on psychological issues, for example, discussing the validity of specific studies in psychology. You will also carry out your own research.

Entry requirements

GCSE in English, Maths and at least one Science at grade C or higher

Future opportunities

A Level Psychology provides a solid foundation for those interested in careers as clinician/counselling psychologist, educational psychologist, teacher, police, social worker and criminal psychologist.
