History AS/A2 at Haringey Sixth Form Centre
You will study:
- Britain 1906-1951.
- African American Civil Right 1950-1968.
- International Relations 1945-2004 specifically the Cold War.
You will complete a historical enquiry (3500 word coursework) on Gandhi and Indian independence.
You will need a critical mind and will have to be prepared to read a lot outside of class. History is one of the hardest A levels but one of the most rewarding.
5 GCSE grade A* – C in relevant subjects including English Language (and ideally History if studied at GCSE). One of these should be a B grade in a related subject. Please note, a BTEC First qualification counts as equivalent to 2 GCSEs. Only one BTEC First can count towards the 5 GCSE equivalence required.
Where it leads:
You can progress to university to study for careers in the civil service and in the voluntary sector, journalism, public relations, education, health and other public sector jobs. History is particularly favoured by admissions tutors for Law degrees as it develops the skills required to be a lawyer.
