Media Studies at Moorlands Sixth Form College

Course description

The AQA media specification is designed to encourage candidates to:

  • enhance their enjoyment and appreciation of the media and its role in their daily lives
  • develop critical understanding of the media through engagement with media products and concepts and throught he creative application of practical skills
  • explore production processes, technologies and other relevant contexts
  • become independent in research skills and their application in practical work and developing views and interpretations

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 higher grades at GCSE including English and maths at a high level

A high grade in GCSE English.  You will also be required to produce a substantial body of work independently outside of the classroom environment, so qualities of self-organistation and motivation are essential.  An enthusiasm for and a serious interest in a variety of media forms is helpful for the study of this course.  Skills in using Adobe Premiere/Photoshop, Dreamweaver or similar web and video/image-editing programs are desirable.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to opportunities in media-related areas such as film and TV production, journalism – broadcast and print, advertising and marketing, web design, photography, technical theatre, and sound production.
