English Language & Literature A Level at Tyne Metropolitan College

Course description

This course offers you the chance to combine both disciplines of English Language and English Literature to develop your writing and communication skills.

It's a diverse and stimulating subject within which you'll develop your thinking skills and apply them to a wide range of texts from different time periods. You will develop core skills in analysing grammar, lexis, semantics, literary and rhetorical language.

Course content

AS and A Level

  • Component 1: Telling Stories
  • Component 2: Exploring Conflict
  • Component 3: Coursework - Making Connections

A Level – Talk in Life and Literature and Text Transformations.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Grade A* to C including Grade B in English Language and Grade C in English Literature.

Assessment

AS/A Level - 80% exam and 20% coursework.

English Language and Literature is an academic discipline which develops a wide range of skills. When it comes to Higher Education, it lends itself well to most humanities or arts-based courses including: English, History, Geography, Teaching Degrees.
