BTEC LEVEL 3 NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN PERFORMING ARTS at Valley Park School
The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts is a vocational qualification with an emphasis on real life experiences relating to the performing arts industry and applying skills and techniques in live performance. The BTEC is coursework based with eight units designed to cover a wide range of academic and vocational skills. In the first year you investigate the work of influential practitioners and create a report on their approaches to a given theme. You will also work as a group to create a performance workshop, and a as individual responding to a commissioned brief and developing Storytelling for performance. In the second year you will continue developing skills and techniques for performance resulting in a final live performance of a play or Musical Theatre. This course will develop skills in performance, developing ideas, research and investigation, and communication.
YEAR ONE Unit 1: Investigating Practitioner’s Work Unit 3: Group Performance Workshop Unit 5: Individual Performance Commission Unit 29: Storytelling YEAR TWO Unit 2: Developing Skills and Technique for Live Performance Unit 4: Performing Arts in the Community Unit 6: Final Live Performance to an Audience Unit 27: Musical Theatre Or Unit 19: Acting Styles
Merit or above in Performing Arts at BTEC Level 2 or grade C or above at GCSE in Dance and/or Drama or relevant performing experience, or by audition.
The course is unit based and each unit is given a credit value depending on the guided learning hours. At the start of each unit you will receive an assignment brief detailing the tasks and criteria to be met. At the end of each unit you will be given a grade of pass, merit or distinction. Units 1, 3 and 5 are externally assessed. Assessment activities include performance work and extended writing.
