Geography at Outwood Academy Valley
The world we live in is changing rapidly. Geography allows you to see how and why it is changing. Our overall goal is to give students a better understand of and a lasting interest in, the world around us. It can enhance communication skills, literacy and numeracy, IT literacy, spatial awareness, team working, problem solving and environment awareness.
The Year 12 course focuses on natural hazards and the 'silent killer' climate change in G1 and population and settlement issues in G2. We will investigate the physical and human processes at working in G1 and look at the effects and management of these around the world as well a considering the impact of a population of 10 bullion in 2050, patterns of migration, regeneration schemes and the urban/rural fringe. In year 13 we contemplate the implications of a lack of resources such as food, water and energy. We also look at human and physical aspects of geography again in the form of development issues and coastal systems.
As a guide, the minimum entry requirement is 5A*-C grades at GCSE or equivalent.
