Product Design - GCSE at St James's C E High School

Course description

This is a course which allows you to specialise in product design. If you enjoy designing and making things, using a range of materials; then this is the course of you. You will have access to all the technology departments and be taught by at least two different teachers. You will learn about a range of materials, manufacturing processes and skills and how to use them when designing and making their own products. You will develop knowledge and understanding by investigating how products are designed and the manufacturing processes used to produce them. You will produce ideas for the designing and making of packaging and products. A range of graphic and making skills will be taught to develop your ability to produce quality products. ICT equipment and software, particularly computer aided design (CAD), will be used when designing and modelling ideas. How will I be assessed? Written Examination | 40% Coursework | 60%. You will be required to produce, for internal assessment, a design folder and the corresponding 3-dimensional product as evidence of your ability to design and make a product from start to finish. You can choose the materials from which to make your products. These will include card, plastics, timber, metal and electronic components.
