Government and Politics at South Holderness Technology College

Course description

The study of Government and Politics develops skills which can be used in many fields. For example, encouraging knowledge of contemporary affairs, the ability to think logically and present a balanced, reasoned argument relevantly and coherently. You will learn to analyse and express ideas in written form and through debate and discussion.

The first year course studies UK politics, focusing on elections, democracy, UK political parties and pressure groups in the first term, and the Constitution, Parliament, the Executive and the Judiciary in the second term.

Year two of the course focuses on politics in the USA, studying elections, US political parties, pressure groups and racial issues in US politics in the first term, and the Constitution, the Presidency, the Supreme Court and Congress in the second term.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs A-C grade including Maths and English

A grade B in GCSE subjects is required for most A Level programmes. Please speak to the sixth form subject teacher for specific details on course entry.
