Geography A Level at Paddington Academy

Course description

Geography is recognised as being an academic subject which is well-respected by both universities and employers. It is a fantastic subject to bridge between the Humanities and Science subjects. Geographers develop a range of skills, including data analysis, and understanding of processes as well. They get involved in politics, humanitarian work, health and medicine, engineering and much more!

Course content

PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY
Looking at the role of different processes in shaping our world, and how it is managed by governments around the globe.
Topics: Tectonic Processes and Hazards, Coastal Landscapes and Change, the Water Cycle and Security, and Carbon Cycle and Energy Security.

HUMAN GEOGRAPHY
Looking at the relationships between people and places around the world. TOPICS: Globalisation, Regenerating Places, Super Powers and Global Development and Connections.

Coursework: (A level only)
An independent investigation on a topic of your choice. You’ll get to choose what you enjoy the most in Geography and write up a report about your findings.

Assessment

3 exams taken in Summer 2018 (AS Level) / 2019 (A Level)
Paper 1: Physical Geography.
Paper 2: Human Geography.
Paper 3: Synoptic investigation of a recent issue (A Level Only)
