Spanish A Level (EDEXCEL) at Chichester College

Course description

The Spanish A-level course is aimed at students with a passion for languages and who have a keen interest in Hispanic culture. Spanish A Level will give you the opportunity to acquire an impressive range of linguistic skills including an extensive vocabulary and range of grammatical structures. The aim of this course is to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and to enable students to use the language for practical communication at an advanced level.

Course content

You will be studying social issues and trends, political and artistic culture and grammar, including aspects of Hispanic society, artistic culture of the Hispanic world, multiculturalism in Hispanic Society and aspects of political life in Hispanic Society. 

The course is based on the communicative approach: - active students' interaction; - emphasis on speaking and listening skills; - pair and group work and role plays; - use of authentic material; - use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate. Students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do homework as and when required.

Entry requirements

Students are required to have passed 5 GCSEs A*-C including English Language and Spanish or to have a good upper intermediate level of Spanish.



This is a 2 year linear A Level where you are examined on the whole syllabus at the end of the second year. There are 3 papers that cover listening, reading, writing and speaking. You will be assessed at the end of year one to see if you can progress to year two.
