Course description

The specification encourages independent study of a range of texts within a shared context. Studied together they create an understanding of English Literature that will deepen the students' knowledge and love of the subject.

Course content

This course is for you if you have a passion for literature. It will develop your literary knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of literature and literary studies.

Entry requirements

Five Grade Cs at GCSE with B Grade in GCSE English Literature.

Assessment

The variety of assessment styles used, such as passage-based questions, unseen material, single-text questions, multiple-text questions, open- and closed-book approaches allows students to develop a wide range of skills, such as the ability to read critically, analyse, evaluate and undertake independent research which are valuable for both further study and future employment in arts and media industries.Two Units:- Study of two texts - one Shakespeare play and one AQA Anthology of Love Poetry through the Ages (Pre-1900 or Post-1900)- Study of two prose texts and an unseen extract of proseTwo examinations involving:1. A Shakespeare play (closed book)and poetry (50% of AS)2. Two prose texts (open book) and an unseen prose text (50% of AS)
