VRQ Level 3 Diploma in women’s hairdressing

Course content

There are 8 units that make up the VRQ Level 3 qualification
- Health and safety
- Promoting products and services to clients
- Consultation services
- Create a variety of looks using a combination of cutting techniques.
- Provide colour correction services
- Colour hair using a variety of techniques
- Creatively style and dress hair
- Human resource management within the hair and beauty sector.

Entry requirements

Level 2 Hairdressing Diploma either VRQ or NVQ.


You will be assessed by:
- Practical assessments
- Portfolio
- Assignments
- Written papers
- Oral questioning

Future opportunities

After successful completion of the course you may progress to;
- Advanced Apprentice in a salon studying a level 3 NVQ Diploma in hairdressing
- Junior stylist
- Senior stylist within a salon, with further progression to Manager and Salon Owner
- Other specialist hairdressing stand-alone units
- Level 4 salon management
- Progression into the Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector
- Progression onto the Diploma in Teaching in the Life Long Learning sector.
- Assessor award level 3
- Private educator and assessor,
- Training academy employee

Solihull College and University Centre offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.

Further information

Students will be expected to take part in work placement in local Hairdressing Salons, and will also have the opportunity to work in the College’s professional salon.

    • Woodlands Campus

      An £8.5 million expansion of our Woodlands Campus now incorporates a new state of the art specialist centre for multi-craft, bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering, carpentry and an expanded motor vehicle training facility. A new sports pitch also enhances the existing sports facilities.

      The new Engineering and Construction facility houses twelve new workshops; six for construction and six for motor vehicle. The rooms accommodate an MOT/motor sport workshop; an engine workshop and further rooms for decorating, plastering and brickwork.

      Woodlands has purpose-built engineering workshops as well as commercial-standard hair and beauty salons. Our IT facilities, learning resource centres and library are also first-rate.

      We also offer a selection of higher education courses at our Woodlands Campus so you can continue your studies with us.

      Via Bus or Train

      The main bus terminal in north Solihull is located in Chelmsley Wood centre. The number 94, 676, 694, 71, 966 and 966A stop at the main terminal with the number 94 stopping on Auckland Drive. The nearest train stations are Marston Green or Water Orton station both located approximately 20 minutes away.
