ESOL (16-18 year olds) at Walsall College

Course description

This full time programme allows 16-19 students with English as second language to develop their language skills alongside employability skills, maths and ICT.

Each student will receive a tutor programme which ensures they are able to develop their English skills at an appropriate level alongside qualifications which will support progression onto higher levels of study or into the workforce.

The three ESOL qualifications are in Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing, and will allow students to develop useful skills for everyday life in English such as:

  • Constructing simple sentences
  • Presenting information through writing
  • Listening for key information
  • Recognising letters of the alphabet in upper and lower case

Entry requirements

Subject to initial assessment.

Assessment

External exams and portfolio.

Future opportunities

Higher level of study in English or progression to higher level of study in a vocational subject.
