Forensic Science BTEC Level 3 Award at Oldershaw Academy
Forensic Science course provides a specialist work related programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills required by students interested in pursuing a career within this fascinating topic area, which also includes science, law and psychology. It will also suit students who excel in coursework. This qualification attracts the same UCAS points as 1 A Level.
In the first year, students will learn how to become good, well rounded scientists by following a course of Applied Science with units including “Science in the Workplace” and “Fundamentals of Science”. Then in the second year we move to look more to the Forensic side of science with units including “Criminal Psychology”, “Forensic Photography” and “Criminal Evidence”. In order to increase the students’ knowledge in certain areas, we offer a range of field trips alongside the course including a visit to a forensic science laboratory, a day out to Lancaster Castle and a trip to Edinburgh. This allows us to examine how crime and punishment have changed over the past few hundred years.
It is a requirement that students have either GCSE grade C in Science or BTEC level 2 in Applied Science.
This course provides opportunity to study at university a whole variety of scientific and social science-based degree courses. The course is broad enough so that the knowledge and skills you learn will also enable you to enter many scientific technician posts.
