Level 3 Apprenticeship in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport at Newcastle-under-Lyme College

Course description

Course content of the Level 3 Diploma covers the following topics:Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults, Schools as Organisations, Understand child and young person development, Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people, Support assessment for learning, Plan a physical education and school sport programme, Deliver a physical education and school sport programme, Review the delivery of a a physical education and school sport programme, Organise and lead a sports event or competition, Preparing for the mentoring role, Support gifted and talented learners & Facilitate community-based sport and physical activity.You will also complete an award at level 3 in Employment Rights and Responsibilities and functional skills maths and Englsih at level 2 if you don't hold grade C and above at GCSE or equivalent.

Entry requirements

Learners are required to:- hold a Level 2 physical education or sport related qualification, examples include: 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport (QCF) GCSE in Physical Education (Grades A-C) a Level 2 National Governing Body of Sport coaching qualification a Level 2 BTEC in Sport a Level 2 qualification in sports/activity leadership or a 1st4sport recognised equivalent- be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing).


Your progress is monitored and assessments arranged as the course progresses. They will take place on-the-job. Assessment has three aspects which are; observation of your actual performance; the knowledge and understanding you display in response to written and/ or spoken questions; and a portfolio of supporting material which you will build up containing assignments, case studies and testimony evidence.

Financial information

While you are on an apprenticeship your employer pays you a salary and supports you whilst you undertake your training.

Future opportunities

You could progress on to a Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification and progress after on to the foundation degrees and higher education.Also you could continue with specific coaching qualifications.
