Sport and Exercise Science – BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Weston College

Course description

This is a sports science study programme that brings together theory and practical skills and knowledge. You will study multiple units: Core – compulsory units: anatomy for sport and exercise, sport and exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, research methods for sport and exercise, research project for sport and exercise, fitness testing for sport and exercise. Specialist units: sports biomechanics in action, exercise, health and lifestyle, fitness training and programming, sports nutrition, current issues in sport, instructing physical activity and exercise, sports injuries, sports coaching, practical individual sports, practical team sports. This qualification will form part of a study programme, which includes exclusive access to the sports academy and enrichment programme, maths and English, tutorial support, employability and study skills.

Maths and English is a fundamental element of this study programme. Skills in Maths and English will be embedded into your academic/ vocational learning. If you do not have a grade C in Maths and/or English you will attend a discrete GCSE or Functional Skills class as part of your weekly timetable.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSE grades A*-C, including Maths, English and Science.


This qualification is assessed by exams and coursework, which includes projects, assignments, presentations and practical activities. Your tutors set the coursework for all internally assessed units.
