Course content

AS French and German:

  • Youth culture and concerns
  • Lifestyle: health and fitness
  • The world around us: travel, tourism, enviromental issues and the French/German speaking world
  • Education and emplyment

A2 French and German:

  • Youth culture and concerns
  • Lifestyle: health and fitness
  • The world around us: travel, tourism, enviromental issues and the French/German speaking world
  • Education and employment
  • customs, traditions, beliefs and religions
  • National and international events, past , present and future
  • Literature and the arts

Entry requirements

A GCSE language exam at a grade B or above is preferred.

Assessment

AS Units

  • Unit 1: spoken expression and response in German/French (students nominate their own topic area) 30% of AS marks.
  • Unit 2: Understanding and written response in German/French 70% AS marks.

A2 Units

  • Unit 3: understanding and spoken response in German/French 35% A2 marks.
  • Unit 4: Research, understanding and written response in German/French 65% of A2 marks.

Future opportunities

Successful students will have access to further study of the subject or related courses in further higher education. The qualification could be used to gain employment in areas such as tourism, service industries, media and journalism, police work, international law, business management, translating, interpreting and teaching.
