English Language and Literature at The Blandford School
Are you interested in: Words and how they are used? Learning about how language works? Reading and studying great fiction and non-fiction writing from a range of periods? Developing your written and spoken communication skills? Making yourself attractive to universities and employers?
As well as studying key literary and linguistic concepts, you will study 5 set texts (2 novels, a play, a poet and an anthology of non-fiction texts), you will produce pieces of your own writing in the linguistic styles and voices of characters from the nonfiction anthology in a variety of forms (letters, diaries, reports, conversations, speeches, etc). You will also write commentaries on your own writing.
B in GCSE English.
AS assessment: 2 examination papers, each being 1.5 hrs and closed book (i.e. No texts allowed in the exam room). A-Level assessment: 2 examination papers, 3 hours and 2 hours, and non-exam assessment (2,500-3000 words).
