Course description
This course is designed to give you a working knowledge of the main media industries via assignments that will require the creation and production of media products drawn from interactive media, 2D concept art for computer games, web design, on-screen graphics, print, and video.
Course content
You will study a range of media related units/modules these include: Research for Creative Media Production, Communication Techniques for Creative Media Production, The Creative Media Sector, Media Audiences and Products, Video Production, Web Authoring, Digital Graphics for Interactive and Print-based Media, 2D Digital Art for Computer Games; these will lead into a Final Major Project to clarify your direction onto a Level 3 Creative Media Production course.
Entry requirements
You must have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D.
Assessment
Assessment will take the form of presentations, case studies, practical tasks, written assignments and two external exams in June 2015 for Unit 1: Digital Media Sectors and Audiences and Unit 8: Media Industry in Context; submissions adhere to strict deadlines.
Financial information
Equipment required will include general stationary for note taking, pencils and a sketchbook for concept work. An 8-16 gigabyte SD Card (Secure Digital Card) for video and an external usb hardrive for backing up coursework.
Future opportunities
Students can progress onto a BTEC Level 3 in VFX and Animation (Film and Games) or BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Television and Film). Students must achieve a Merit overall and obtain English or maths at grade C.
