GERMAN at Steyning Grammar School

Course description

The course will cover the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, with emphasis on both practical communication and grammatical accuracy. Language learning will take place within a list of topic areas, all of which will be studied in the context of German culture and society.

The topic areas for the AS specification are:

  • Aspects of daily life, to include family, transport, food and drink, health and addiction
  • Leisure and entertainment, to include sport, leisure activities, tourism and the arts
  • Communication and media, to include press, radio and TV, communication technology.
  • Education and training, to include school and school life, work and training.

    The topic areas for A2 are:

  • Society, to include aspects of integration and exclusion, law and order, unemployment.
  • Science and technology, to include technological, medical and scientific advances.
  • Culture, to include literature and the arts, political issues, heritage and history.
  • Environment, to include energy management, pollution and conservation, the individual and the environment.

  • Entry requirements

    For Year ONE - Grade A* - B at GCSE. (Grade C in exceptional circumstances)
    For Year TWO - ‘Pass’ grade in AS examinations taken in the summer of Y12.
