Spanish GCSE at Strode College

Course description

Spanish is a world-wide language spoken not only in Spain but also throughout most of South America which makes it an extremely useful language to know.
GCSE Spanish is an excellent achievement in its own right and will equip you for survival in day to day holiday situations in Spain or South America. Major employers now see a working knowledge of at least one European language as an increasingly important skill.
You will develop the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing - through the study of familiar everyday topics, for example: family and friends, interests and hobbies, holiday activities, part-time jobs and work experience, leisure, the environment and social responsibilities.
Visits to the cinema to view foreign films, theatre or a sixth form conference.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but an interest in languages is important.


At the end of this one year course there will be tests for reading and writing. Speaking and writing skills are assessed throughout the year.

Future opportunities

This course is an ideal preparation for A Level Spanish, which you could take as a qualification at Strode College. This would qualify you for degree level study at university. Language qualifications and skills are widely considered to be of value by many employers.
