Design and Technology (Product Design) AS/and A Level CRE/OUN at Invictus Sixth Form

Course description

Design and Technology is purposeful, as well as being fun and exciting! Studying AS/A Level Design and Technology will build on what you learnt about designing and making at GCSE. You will use your knowledge and skills to design and make new and better solutions to real problems – on your own and with others – working with materials you choose.

25% of the UK’s economy is in Design and Technology – the biggest job sector! We need Designers and Engineers for the rapidly developing technologies.

You will study user needs, material properties, designing (including CAD), making (including CAM), analysing problems, evaluating your own and others work and learning how things work. .

B grade in a Design & Technology GCSE


50% Product Development Non-Exam Assessment (NEA)

50% Principles of ‘Product Design’ Exam A Level:

50% Iterative Design Project Non-Exam Assessment (NEA)

26.7% Principles of ‘Product Design’ Exam

23.3% Problem-Solving Exam

Future opportunities

D&T leads to a wide range of careers in the creative, engineering and manufacturing industries. It is also excellent preparation for careers in many other fields e.g. medicine, law and computer science. Scholarships and apprenticeships are available to apply for during the course.
