Mathematics (Further) A-Level at DSLV E-ACT Academy

Course description

A Level Further Mathematics is aimed at the most able mathematicians who are intending to pursue a Mathematics orientated career. Further Mathematics must be taken along with Mathematics (9371). Further Mathematics leads on to many maths-related degree courses such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or Physics. Further Mathematics builds on the Pure Mathematics covered in A Level Mathematics introducing a lot more calculus and moves on to complex numbers and matrices. Modules also include Statistics and Decision mathematics which looks at the way algorithms and linear programming can be used in real life settings. The course is broken into six modules, as with A-level Mathematics. Each module carries equal weight. Further Mathematicians will be completing six units a year, three from the A Level Mathematics specification and three for Further Maths. This same process is repeated in the second year with six further modules. Students will take C1, C2, S1, M1, FP1 and D1 at the end of their first year. The remaining modules will be taken in May/June of year 13. All applied modules are subject to change, depending on the strengths of the group. Other than the compulsory modules for A Level C1, C2, C3 and C4 the best modules will always be counted towards the Mathematics A Level and not the Further Mathematics A Level. Students who successfully complete Mathematics and Further Mathematics will be awarded two Advanced Level GCE qualifications which will count individually as UCAS points.
