BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design at Altrincham College

Course description

A highly practical course which is structured around 8 units. It offers each student the opportunity to develop an exciting and very personlaised portfolio of work whilst still experimenting and experiencing skills in a vareity of areas.

Course content

6 Mandatroy Units - Visual Recording and Communication, Critical and Contextual Sudies in Art & Design, The Creative Process, Materials, Techniques and Processess in Art & design, Developing an Art & Design Portfolio, Developing and Realising Creative Intentions

2 Optional Units - Fine Art Materials Techniques and Processes, Photographic Materials, Techniques and Processes.


Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English LAnguage and Mathsand a strong potfolio of art work. If you completed GCSE Art & Design, GRaphics or Textiles you must have achieved a minimum of a grade C.


Units will be internally and externally assessed throughout the 2 years. The course is graded Distinction*, Distinction, Merit and Pass and is equivalent to 2 A Levels.

This course has been designed to provide progression onto a wide range of related courses in higher education such as Art & Design, Textiles, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Photogrpahy, Fine Art
