Design Engineering - BTEC Level 3 at Wigan UTC

Course description

Engineers make dreams become reality using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).  
 
Most things have been engineered including football stadiums, cars, appliances, exercise equipment, food manufacturing, and even electricity.  All of these involve engineering in some form through design, build, maintenance, and planning to achieve a final product/ service.
 
Our Engineering course allows students to prepare themselves for employment, an apprenticeship or university by gaining the relevant knowledge and skills needed to meet the needs of modern engineering industries.  
 
Students are provided with FREE Work Wear and will learn about design, mechanical and electronic disciplines as well as the core units within the course:
 
Engineering Principles 
Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team 
Engineering Product Design and Manufacture 
Applied Commercial and Quality Principles in Engineering 
A Specialist Engineering Project 
Microcontroller Systems for Engineers 
 
 
Optional Units including:
  • Website Production to Control Devices
  • Computer Aided Design in Engineering
  • Manufacturing Primary Forming Processes
  • Additive Manufacturing Processes
  • Manufacturing Joining, Finishing and Assembly Processes
  • Composites Manufacture and Repair Processes

 

Plus an exciting range of other units that will also have a number of practical activities that link to real life industrial situations.
 
There will be written, calculated work and practical investigation. Some assessments will take the form of a presentation. Some units will involve the fabrication of a product or the creation of a drawing.

  • Engineering (Generic) - BTEC Level 3
  • Electrical/ Electronic Engineering - BTEC Level 3
  • Manufacturing Engineering - BTEC Level 3
  • Creative & Design Engineering - BTEC Level 3
  • Network Rail Engineering BTEC Level 3 & Work Placement 1 days per week
  • Engineering - BTEC Level 2

Entry requirements

BTEC courses

At least 5 at grades   A*-C   Including English & Maths

At least 5 at grades   9-4     Including English & Maths

 

A Levels

Grade 6 or above in the subject required to study

Financial information

Funded if aged 16-19

Successful completion will provide progression onto university, a wide range of possible employment careers and apprenticeships including higher apprenticeships.
