AS/A2 Levels: History at Hind Leys College (Iveshead School)

Course description

History is the study of events which have shaped the development and characteristics of humanity. We consider events in depth, and also consider change and development over time.

Course content

Students will study either 3 components as part of their History A Level or 2 components for the AS Level. Components 1 and 2 are assessed via examination, whilst Component 3 is assessed via a 3,500 word essay (A Level only). 

Entry requirements

Minimum of grade 4 in English and grade 5 in Maths and 3 other A*-C GCSEs including a minimum grade C if student has taken GCSE History.

Assessment

All examinations require students to answer source and non-source questions. Component 1 (Breadth Study) - The Tudors; England, 1485-1603 (50% of AS, 40% of A Level) Component 2 (Depth Study) - France In Revolution, 1774-1815 (50% of AS, 40% of A Level) Component 3 (Historical Investigation) -  3,500 word essay on Tsarist and Communist Russia, 1855-1964 (20% A Level only).

    • Hind Leys College shares campus with Shepshed High School, St Botolphs C of E Primary School, Hind Leys Pre-School, The Oak Treehouse Nursery and Shepshed Toy Library.

      Shepshed Campus is only a short distance off Leicester Road from the A512, off Junction 23 of the M1.  The nearest train station is Loughborough.

      Bus links include Arriva bus nos. 126 and 127,  Paul Winson nos. 4 and 129, connecting Shepshed to Leicester, Loughborough, Coalville and Ashby de la Zouch.  

      Students attending Hind Leys College from the catchment areas and neighbouring villages are bussed to college through the Leicestershire County Council school transport provision.
