Level 3 NVQ in Furniture Making at City Training Services
This involves 4 and 6 Optional Units Mandatory Units. The Apprentice will attend College for 1 day each week. Apprentices will be observed and assessed by fully qualified and experienced tutors at college and Work Based recorders in the workplace. The Apprentice will receive full support whilst training and will have a dedicated training co-ordinator who will give pastoral support, maintain regular contact and conduct a progress review every 10 weeks. Prior to completing the Apprenticeship the Apprentice will have completed a comprehensive portfolio of evidence showing competency in all areas of Furniture Making.
Knowledge Based Evidence
There is a Diploma to complete for the Apprenticeship, comprising 6 Mandatory Units, 1 Optional Unit and a series of End Tests including Practical Assessments. This part of the qualification is the underpinning knowledge the Apprentice will need to do the job effectively, covering Workplace Health & Safety, Developing and Maintaining Good Working Relationships and Methods of Work.
Functional Skills in Application of Number and Communications at Level 1 are part of the framework but GCSE Grade C’s in English and Maths will exempt the Apprentice from doing these.

Unit 319:- Solve & Prevent Furniture Manufacture Problems
Unit 321:- Produce Furniture Production Specifications
Unit 322:- Operate CAD Equipment
Unit 335:- Conduct a Health & Safety Risk Assessment of a Furniture/Interiors related Workplace
Unit 210:- Health & Safety within a Furniture & Furnishings Environment
Unit 229:- Sustainability in the Timber Trade
Unit 301:- Assemble Furniture Components by Hand
Unit 313:- Prototype Design in Furniture Making
Unit 315:- Research & Product Development in Furniture making
Unit 319:- Supervision in a Furniture & Furnishing Making Environment
Unit 205:- Attaching Doors, Drawers and Fittings in Furniture Making
Unit 311:- Produce Drawings using CAD
Unit 312:- Production Planning in Furniture & Furnishing Making
It is recommended that the Apprentice achieves at least Grade D GCSE in English and Maths or Level 1 on the BKSB Assessment test.
On Site Assessment by College Assessor, End Tests in College, Classroom/Workshop Assessment by Tutor and Portfolio Evidence.
Upon completion of the Level 3 NVQ the Apprentice will be a Skilled Furniture Maker.
