Sport L3 Extended Diploma at North Lindsey College

Course description

This is primarily a theoretical course that analyses every aspect of the industry through the medium of sport. It is also delivered through a variety of practical methods, taking place within the classroom, the College gym, the activity studio, the lab and fitness testing room, the Pods, the sports field and the multi-use games area.

Course content

On the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport you will study from the following units: (subject to confirmation)
- Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
- Sports Massage
- Sports Injuries
- Analysing Sports Performance
- Identifying Talent
- Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
- Sports Coaching
- Practical Sports
- Sports Nutrition
- Physical Education and the Care of Children and Young People
- Sports Facilities and Operational Management

Entry requirements

You will TYPICALLY need at least 5 GCSEs A*-C typically to include Maths & Engish or successful completion of a Level 2 Sports programme with appropriate Maths & English qualifications


Assessment is an ongoing process throughout the academic year. It will take the form of assignments, practical sessions, oral presentations, coaching sessions and laboratory testing. 

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport it is possible to progress onto university through UCAS or onto the Level 3 Personal Training or Level 3 Sports Massage Therpay within the department. Alternatively, successful learners may apply for employment within the armed forces, leisure centres, health clubs, sports coaching and many other fitness and sport related areas.
