Design & Technology: Product Design (Textiles) A Level at The Whitehaven Academy

Course description

A-level Design and Technology: Product Design (Textiles) helps you to take a broad view of Design and Technology. The specification also helps you to develop your capacity to design and make products and appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.

There are four main areas:

  • Materials, Components and Applications
  • Learning Through Designing and Making
  • Design and Manufacture
  • Design and Making Practice

Entry requirements

A grade C and above in English, Maths and Science and preferably you have taken Technology at GCSE, although this is not essential.

Assessment

AS – 1 written examination paper and 1 coursework unit

A2 – 1 written examination paper and 1 coursework unit

Future opportunities

Textile Design could take you into a number of exciting career paths. Being a textile designer is a natural outcome, but there are other prospects such as working as an interior designer or in fashion merchandising and buying.
