Course description

Developed in response to the industry’s request for broader training to improve the skills, knowledge and understanding of the future workforce this course provides you with an introduction to Bricklaying.

Course content


  • Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
  • Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding
  • Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
  • Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures

Please note: If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course. All students will be expected to complete work experience and possibly the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) in order to gain access to construction sites.

Entry requirements

Standard Level 2 entry requirements. For this course you may also have a Level 1 Diploma in Basic Construction Skills.

Future opportunities

On successful completion you may be able to move on to Level 2 Extended Diploma to enhance your bricklaying skills or BTEC Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma in Construction and Built Environment (providing you have achieved Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English), or a Bricklaying Apprenticeship.
