Classical Civilisation at Longcroft School

Course description

The ancient worlds of Rome and Greece provide the backdrop for this fascinating A level exploring two of the greatest civilisations the world has ever seen. Through studying historical literature and art you’ll gain an appreciation of how these ancient peoples worked and learn about the similarities and differences between their worlds and the world that exists today. Incorporating aspects of archaeology, theatre and philosophy, this course looks at the culture, society and make-up of the ancient world and in so doing will provide you with a fresh perspective on the modern world.

This specification has been designed to:
- offer a wide choice of topics in the areas of archaeology, architecture, art, history and politics, literature and philosophy
- complement many other popular A levels, including Art, Theatre Studies, English Literature, Government and Politics, History and Philosophy
Students will develop the critical and evaluative skills which will enable them to go on to Higher Education to study a wide range of courses.

Entry requirements

Students should have achieved five GCSE grades A* to C including B grades in English and English Literature and a C grade in Maths.
