Hairdressing VTCT Level 2 Diploma at Macclesfield College

Course description

This course covers all basic hairdressing skills including practical skills, working to a 
commercially viable time and theoretical knowledge. Additionally if you are creative and interested in learning a wide range of basic skills in the hairdressing industry then this may be the course for you. You will need good dexterity skills for practical work and good communication skills. This will enable you to become an Improver in the hairdressing industry.

Course content

Your learning will take place in the College‚Äôs Pure Salon where you will work on practice blocks and real clients to gain assessments. You will also undertake work experience out in the industry to prepare you for the working environment. 

During this course you will cover the following units:

  • Advising and consulting with clients
  • Giving a positive impression
  • Working in the hairdressing industry
  • Shampoo and condition
  • Colour hair using basic techniques
  • Style and finish hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Cutting hair using basic techniques
  • Promotion of services and products 
  • Health and safety in the salon

Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade C or above. If you have achieved a grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will engage in extending these skills through a Directed Study Programme.

Entry requirements

For this course you will need to have achieved one of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs grade D 
  • A Level 1 qualification in Hairdressing

On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.

Assessment

You will be assessed practically, through written assessment, assignment work, by examination and orally questioned.

GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work.

You will need to purchase a uniform for this course. You will be advised of these and their cost at your admissions interview.
