Course description
The BTEC National Level 3 Diploma in Business (equivalent to two A-Levels) will give you a solid knowledge base for career opportunities in areas such as Marketing, Personnel, Accountancy, Law, Retail, Finance, and Business Planning. Universities welcome
applications from successful BTEC National Diploma Business students.
Course content
Core Units:
The Business Environment, Business Resources, Introduction to Marketing and Business Communication (all to be taken in Year 12).
Specialist Units:
Year 12: Business Accounting, Creative Product Promotion, Human Resource
Management in Business.
Year 13: Business communication, Managing a Business Event, Supporting Business Activities, Understanding Retailing, Impact of Communications Technology and Starting a Small Business,
Entry requirements
Successful students on this course are able to manage themselves to meet deadlines
effectively. They need to be prepared to work independently and will be able to form a
critical view of the businesses they are investigating. You will need to have one of the
following for entry onto this course: a BTEC First Diploma in Business (with a Distinction pass), other related Level 2 qualifications equivalent to five GCSEs (grade C or above), or related work experience.
Assessment
There are a variety of learning methods and ways to show what you understand, including essays, video and audio recordings, case studies, presentations and research-based reports. You will accumulate your work in a portfolio over a course which is almost
exclusively based on coursework rather than examination.
