Further Maths AS at Hayes School

Course description

Further Mathematics must be taken in conjunction with A Level Mathematics. The full A level consists of 6 modules. Three of the modules are ‘Further Mathematics’ which extend the concepts covered in the core units studied in A level Maths. The remaining three units will be made up from Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Maths depending on what has already been studied. Courses in Further Maths continue the development of the concepts of geometry, trigonometry, number theory, algebra and calculus covered in the Maths A level. This is where students will meet polar coordinates, matrices, complex numbers and differential equations in detail amongst other further Maths topics. Students entering the course will also need to take A level Maths as an option. Alternatively we offer an AS Further Maths studied in Year 13 only. This would comprise of three units – one of Further Maths and two other application modules.

Entry requirements

4 GCSE B grades, including A in this subject, preferably A* is highly recommended

Future opportunities
