Art and Design RSW Diploma Level 1 at Boston College
This course combines a basic introduction to art and design with work experience. You will study many areas including: explore drawing, explore mixed media, a personal project, explore print making, career progression, plan and participate in an event, working
as a part of a group, preparation for work, self-assessment and welcoming visitors.
This course will help you to understand aspects of the art and design sector and the skills required to work successfully in the industry.
As a RSW art and design learner you will spend part of your time studying in the Colleges art rooms and studios.
You will study the Level 1 BTEC Diploma in Vocational Studies and get an opportunity to visit local and regional businesses to observe and gain experience in the art and design industry.
Guest speakers from industry may also come and speak to you to give you an insight into the different careers you could progress into.
You will be encouraged to develop your employability skills including time management, communication skills, research skills and teamwork. As a part of the course you will gain a valuable work experience which will be arranged by the College.
There are no formal entry qualifications for this course.
This course is a combination of both practical and theory. You will learn and be assessed by completing either practical or scenario based activities and by writing assignments.
These assignment activities will develop your practical skills from a variety of art and design areas.
Assessments could include: Functional Skills exams, Production of a Portfolio (written, videoed, audio recorded), Case Studies, and Role Play.
You may require a DBS, tools and a protective uniform.
The course will give you the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at D-G grade.
This would give you the opportunity to progress to other courses within the College at Level 1 or 2, an Apprenticeship or employment.
