Photography at Swinton Academy

Course description

Photography is one of the few truly universal forms of communication that crosses both social and cultural boundaries, and is apparent in many aspects of our everyday life.  As an A Level Photography student you will be encouraged to explore your creativity and use your imagination, as well as being challenged in problem solving and to think philosophically about how and why photographs are created.  You will also develop a solid skill set, becoming proficient in the use of Photoshop as well as Digital and Darkroom photography.

Course content

In Year one you will learn how to use both SLR and DSLR cameras and their functions.  You will develop your knowledge and experience of lens based media using both dark room and digital processes, as well as becoming proficient in the use of key elements which enable you to make good quality photographs, as well as studying different photographic genres.

The 2nd year of A Level Photography will enable students more freedom for personal development as creative practitioners.  The Personal Investigation will ensure concepts and skills are more specialised, developed and thoroughly explored, learning how to contextualise your work whilst fostering your own style.
