Art & Design Level 3 at Sir John Gleed School

Course description

If you have a passion for Art & Design and have considered a career in the creative sector, then this course will enable you to build these essential skills and techniques to start as a professional or move on to further study. The course structure allows you to develop your skills and knowledge in techniques and materials, concepts and influences, visual recording and communication.

The course consists of classroom based activities which are internally assessed through a range of coursework assignments. There are no examinations.

Course content:

Mandatory (core) units:

  • Visual Recording in Art and Design
  • Materials, Techniques, and Processes in Art and Design
  • Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design Communication through Art and Design?
  • Contextual Influences in Art and Design

After completion of the core units you might specialise in the area that you are most interested in by selecting units to tailor your own course.

The specialist areas might be: 

  • 3D Design
  • Design Crafts
  • Fine Art
  • Textiles

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE’s at grade A* - C, including Art, or ability to show talent in Art / Design.
