Art and Design BTEC (Level 2) at Gateacre School
BTEC Art and Design is a flexible, exciting qualification, made up of four units all with a focus on Art and Design. This successful course offers learners the chance to be creative, develop a wide range of new skills and techniques, whilst providing a good foundation for anyone hoping to work in the creative industries in the future. This course is the equivalent to two grade A-C's at GCSE. BTEC's are not exam-based qualifications, so if you find exams daunting, this could be an alternative qualification.
- Unit 1: Contextual references in art and design. Students research a wide range of historical and contemporary artists including Warhol and Banksy, developing a response inspired by their findings.
- Unit 2: 2D visual communication. Students create a wide range of 2D techniques to develop drawing, photography, digital media, painting, photography and printmaking outcomes.
- Unit 3: 3D visual communication. Students create a wide range of 3D techniques to develop ceramic, wire , papier mache and mod roc sculptures.
- Unit 7: Working with Graphic Design Briefs. Students use a range of digital media in order to create a digital portfolio, logo and business cards.
Students are offered a contemporary and work-based course were they are given the opportunity to use their creative freedom to help develop personal responses to Art and Design briefs. Throughout the course students will be given the chance to visit galleries, both in the UK and abroad and gain training in studio based workshops, allowing students to develop 2D, 3D and digital work. All students will develop a portfolio and gain training that will help them progress into a career in Art and Design. To study BTEC Art and Design it doesn't matter if you have any prior experience of Art and Design or not. This course provides all the basics, which once mastered, encourages students to explore and develop their creative skills. Enthusiasm and the ability to work hard is all you need! Ongoing assessment with no end-of-year exams ensures that students are given the best possible chance for success.
