Chemistry A Level at Riverside College Halton

Course content

Chemistry is all around us and is vital to every aspect of modern life. This course will give you the basic tools to understand what things are made of and how they interact together. You will study physical chemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry and conduct a number of practical experiments. An understanding of Chemistry is vital to many students of Science at University.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 A-C GCSE subject passes to include English Language and maths and 2 grade Bs including a B in Double Award Science or B in Single Science (Chemistry) .

Assessment

The course is divided into six modules. You will take exams in modules one to three in the first year and modules four to six in the second year. Practical work is internally assessed and is worth 15% of the overall marks. During term time you will be given assignments to complete and a weekly directed study test.

Future opportunities

You could progress onto a BSc Hons degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Pharmacy, Bio-Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Veterinary Science. You could enter employment as a laboratory technician.
