BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Music at The Robert Napier School

Course description

This qualification aims to provide a broad educational base for further training, further education and employment within the music sector. The qualification will develop learners’ abilities through knowledge and skills gained in different parts of the course. Students must already sing or play an instrument in order to successfully complete this course.

Course content

Year 1

All students will study one mandatory unit: Unit 19 Music & Society Students will also study five other units, such as: Unit 40 Working & Developing as a Musical Ensemble Unit 30 Pop Music in Practice Unit 23 Music Performance Techniques Unit 7 Composing Music Unit 23 Music Performance techniques

Year 2

All students will study two mandatory units: Unit 16 Music Project Unit 39 The Sound & Music Industry Students will also study four other units: Unit 33 Solo Music Performance Skills Unit 15 Live Music Workshop Unit 16 Music Project Unit 21 Music in the Community

Entry requirements

GCSE Music Grade C/BTEC L2 merit or distinction and/or the ability to play an instrument or sing confidently.

Assessment

BTEC courses are 100% coursework assessed.

Future opportunities

This course will offer students the opportunity to develop as a soloist and ensemble performer, with a wide range of performance opportunities within the school and the wider community. Students will develop a variety of skills such as, communication skills, the ability to work independently and within a team, time management and research skills. All of which, are valuable skills within the world of work.
