Art - Applied Arts (Year 1) - Level 3 at North Kent College
Based within CIDA (Creative Industrial design & Arts) this course specializes in workshops, skills and techniques using clay, plaster, soft metals, print materials...etc and encourages the introduction and exploration of any material that can be successfully used to produce a desired outcome. The staff team have extensive knowledge and expertise within applied arts and are continually revising and moving the course content forward in order to keep abreast of innovation within the specialist areas. Life Drawing and visual studies and contextual studies underpin all research. Some software applications are used and Portfolio and Presentational skills become increasingly important in year 2.
The course meets the needs of aspiring designers wishing to acquire hand-making skills specific to a career pathway as Ceramicist, Potter, Printmaker, Jeweler, Textile designer, Illustration and Book-making. Underpinning the course is drawing, use of colour, exploration of materials, techniques and processes, and a wide cultural and contextual awareness. Visual recording using specialist and found materials is an essential element and members are expected to take full advantage of this freedom in order to bring something original to their portfolio.
4 GCSE A* - C grades or equivalent plus Portfolio and Interview. Formal academic requirements may be waived for mature applicants but Portfolio and Interview still apply.
Design Journals and 3D materials outcomes, Research Journals, Portfolio and Presentation.
£150 studio contribution per year, plus materials/visits/exhibitions.
Year 2 through successful completion of year 1; then Higher Education or Employment.
