Course description

The Extended Certificate in Business aims to give students practical knowledge of a range of business skills and a thorough understanding of the key elements within business.

The course team works closely with employers to ensure the curriculum content not only meets the requirements of the awarding body but also local industry requirements.

Course content

The course includes 3 Core Units:

  • Enterprise in the Business World
  • Finance for Business
  • Principles of Marketing

Plus 8 Specialist Units:

  • Providing Business Support
  • Using Business Documentation
  • Business Online
  • Introducing Law and Consumer Rights
  • Financial Planning and Forecasting
  • Promoting a Brand
  • Principles of Customer Service
  • Enhancing the Customer Experience

This course also gives you the opportunity to work on your English and Maths skills, focusing upon your improving GCSE grades and study skills which are essential skills within the business industry.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above including English and Maths. Student progressing from Level 1 will require functional skills Level 1 Maths and English.


Assessment methods - This course will include two examinations, one in Marketing unit and one in Finance unit

Financial information

There are no additional equipment requirements other than standard stationery items.

Future opportunities

After completion of the Extended Certificate in Business programme you will have a nationally recognised qualification and attaining a merit grade can enable progression onto the BTEC Extended Diploma in Business at Level 3, NVQ Level 3 Business Administration or into your chosen career.
