Course description

Why is life on Earth so varied? How do our bodies build themselves? How do the principles of Chemistry and Physics shape animal and plant existence? Biology has the answers...

Unit 1: Cells, Exchange and Transport. (cell structure and function, breathing, transport). 
Unit 2: Molecules, Biodiversity, Food and Health. (biological molecules, DNA, enzymes, diet, disease, biodiversity, evolution). 
Unit 3: Practical Skills. (practical tasks, internally assessed). 
Unit 4: Communication, Homeostasis and Energy. (respiration, photosynthesis, excretion, nerves and hormones). 
Unit 5: Control, Genomes and Environment. (animal responses, animal behaviour, cloning, biotechnology, gene technology, ecology, cellular control). 
Unit 6: Practical Skills.

Entry requirements

B grades at Core and Additional science or B grades in two separate sciences (including the science selected to study).

Assessment

Previously external exams and practical internal exams.
