Business Studies A Level at Claremont High School Academy
Are you entrepreneurial? Have you considered starting your own business, or perhaps you already have one? Do you like making and justifying decisions in a fast paced environment? Have you considered why some firms are successful in a dynamic and competitive business environment, such as Zara in fashion retail? Do you want to know what affects changes in interest rates or exchange rates will have on the operations of a business? What makes a good employee and how do you spot them landing on your doorstep?
These are just some of the varied areas Business Studies takes you to. Learning is an active mixture of decision making in a case study context, reading, essay and report writing, independent investigation and presentations. Students acquire the critical business skills of recognising the context of a problem, collecting relevant information to analyse and evaluate, present convincingly the possible solutions to the problem in an imaginative way and evaluate the solution implemented.
Business Studies is a course you can continue at university where you could specialise in marketing, finance, accounting, personnel or the legal and administrative aspects of business. Careers can open up in a variety of areas such as being your own boss, working for an estate agent, pursuing a career in the City, rolling up your sleeves in manufacturing or representing firms abroad. The world is your oyster.
Business students can participate in running their own company through the Young Enterprise scheme and they are encouraged to participate in Proshare. A variety of Business visits are organised to see the workings of theory in practice.
