Computing A Level at Haverstock School

Course description

This course enables students to develop an understanding of, and an ability to appy, the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science to real world systems.

Students will gain a wider understanding of processors, input, output and storage devices. They will develop their knowledge of software through programming concepts and will gain practical experience of developing their own algorithms.

The theory led lessons will support students in problem solving and computational thinking in order to prepare them for the exam. Students practise exam techniques by answering exam style questions in lesson and as homework.

Entry requirements

Achieving B or above in maths and computing

Assessment

1. Computing principles- 1 hour 15mins.written paper
2. Algorithms and problem solving- 1 hour 15mins. written paper

Future opportunities

This is a valuable A level that can lead to a range of opportunities both academically and professionally such as computer programming, web design, software engineering, business and computer graphics.
